Nicol Paterson

Nicol Paterson (aka Nicholas and Patterson) was the first owner of the Freemasons Hotel, in partnership with his brother-in-law Anthony Cornish. He was later the proprietor of the Race Horse Tavern, which preceded the Princess Theatre in Leake Street.

Qualified as juror in 1860 with £1000 real estate. Employed 19 T/ L men 1865-1871.

To Eng. per Gloucester 5.1.1862 (Educ. at Birmingham) returned 1864. Employed 4 T/L men on occasions 1872-1881. Pinjarra. Inherited father's property. Partner in Kimberley "Liveringa" Pastoral Co. 1882- 1886. JP 1889. Member Murray Rd. Bd. 20 yrs. Owned a foundry in Perth & farm at "Whitby Falls". Chairman of Lands Bd. & Railway Advisory Bd. MLC Murray & Wlliams 1.1889-12.1890. MLA Murray 12.1890-2.1895. Managing Trustee of Agric. Bank of WA. Commemorated in 1979 in brass plaque in Perth pavement for year 1898.

PATERSON, George Pryde, b. 20.3.1849, d. 7.1929, son of Nicol & Jane (nee Green) of Pinjarra, m. 1875 Eleanor Elizabeth DURLACHER, b. 12.3.1856 d. 10.4.1918, dtr. of Alfred & Christina (nee Slade). Chd. Alfred b. 1876 d. 1951, Maud Mary P b. 1878, Frank Cecil P b. 1879, James Douglas P b. 1883 d. 1973, Eric Lewis b. 1884 d. 1887, Dorothy Margaret b. 1885, Marguerite Christina P b. 1887, Ke1th Durlacher P b. 1889, Cedric John Pryde b. 1892. Farmed at the family estate "Creaton" with brother William. He was leader in the Murray Squatting group which pioneered "Yeeda", West Kimberley 1880. He then took up "Yarraloola", near Onslow with A.R.Richardson.

Rettie, Kenneth b. 1881, Thomas, Doris, Malcolm Eric d. 1918 (AIF). To Batavia 5.1871 per Ellen Lewis & returned 24.11.1871 per Laughing Wave by way of China. Visited SA 1883, 1887 & 1888. Surveyor, worked for SA Govt. for 8 yrs & then in WA. Member Perth City Council -1890 & 1896-8. Planned tramways etc . Member of Bd. of Health 1889. Member of A.N.A. Educ. St. Peters College Adelaide.
